Ever since Castlevania: Symphony of the Night graced the world with its ‘Metroid-like’ gameplay, we’ve been referring to games similar to it as ‘Metroidvanias.’ Today, the Metroidvania genre is steadily increasing in popularity, thanks in large part to indie game developers, but recent discussions about its validity as a genre name have ignited a schism in the wider online space. Should we keep using what we’re familiar with, or should we retire it and adopt a better name? Personally, I’m with the latter, and after this, you’ll agree that Metroidvanias Don’t Exist!

DISCLAIMER: First of all, I would like to apologize for my abrupt disappearance, but I have been in the metaphorical kitchen cooking up this cinematic meal. This video should have come out MONTHS ago, but learning video editing and production, as well as audio editing, proved to be a tenacious grind. But I had to learn sooner or later, and I’m glad I did, for I found the experience to be rather enjoyable… in an annoying kind of way XD.
